I have been experiencing extreme foot pain in my left foot, around the 3rd and 4th metatarsals, i have been to have an x-ray, which showed nothing, physio hasn’t helped, and neither have the orthotics that were fitted to my feet. I am 15 years old, and this has been going on for about 5 months this year. I am going to have an MRI next week, which will determine whether or not I will need surgery.

I was wanting to know if this is common in people my age, and would i be required to miss time off school, as next year is my first major exam year. How long would it take to recover from surgery if i need it, and again, would i be able to attend school, with crutches if necessary.

I would rather not have any negative comments, as i don’t see what you would criticize about. I am just worried that my schooling would be greatly affected. so any help would be appreciated, if you can.
About 6 weeks ago i saw an orthopedic surgeon. all the people i have seen have done the compressure things, and the surgeon is quite sure that it is a neuroma, the MRI is only to confirm its there. I am glad to hear i wont miss school. Ithe reason for orthotics is because my feet are not how they should be, but its too hard to explain what exactly is wrong, but they say thats the reason for the neuroma. also there is always bruising which the surgeon is most likely from the way my feet move when i am walking, and the tendons and things get aggitated and ripped. this happens at leats every 2 weeks, for 5 months

I’m OK now after taking Actifed.

I have morton’s neuroma, and my dr recommended either getting a cortisone shot or doing the EDIN procedure. He claims that he has mostly 90% success rate with his patients. I have researched the details of the procedure, I wanted to see what they do exactly. I wonder, what happens to the foot once the ligament is cut? Does this affect how the foot is aligned? I know that the ligament runs across the toes, but it will never grow attached, so whats the downside of that… I wonder if you develop a spread along the toes or what… I have only been able to find blogs that talk about the EDIN from 2003-2007. No one has been talking about it online since then, that I can find. As some things improve with time and mistakes and education, I would like to hear from anyone who can tell me more and share their experience. I am going to get my first cortisone shot in the morning. Depending on if I get relief will determine my next course of action. Please share, and educate
I got my shot yesterday, not the most pleasant and I still do not know if it is going to give me relief. While there, I asked my Dr about that certain ligament he stated needed to be cut, and his answer was that the ligament currently is not doing its job, it has given the nerve an even smaller area where the neuroma is so that it is tighter than it should be. He stated that cutting that one area of the ligament will not have any effect on my toes or foot. I won’t have a huge gap develop between my toes or anything in 10-20 years… That was all that I really asked him, other than how many he had done, and finding out the he is among the few in our state that perform this and the only one in my city. I am still not sold yet. I feel like surgery would be the better option but this procedure would be easier on the pocket and I would be back to normal activities faster, so they say.. Thanks for your input, I am glad that I got some information to consider

I have spent large amounts of money on visits over the past almost 2 years. I recently received 5 alcohol shots to treat a neuroma, which was the latest analysis. However my foot is still swollen hugely (socks give me indentions!). I feel like the neuroma was not the answer. The only way any swelling will go down is if my foot is raised and i am laying down. Ive tried rounds of motrin and nothing has worked. I am desperate for answers as i am only 20 years old and am embarressed to wear sandals or flip flops let alone any dress shoes! Any thoughts or ideas woud be greatly appreciated!!!

I was wearing tighter shoes sixth months ago, and running in them, as well as walking in them. Pain started shortly after…
There is no swelling, and orthotics did not help. Also, when my foot falls asleep, there is still pain…
5 X-rays, 3 MRIS, a blood test (for diabetes), and a Nerve conduction test.
Please keep thinking and get back to me. I am about to loose my mind!
Paing varies each day, each week. Sometimes really intense, somtimes nothing.
No back pain. No hip pain, no knee pain, no thigh pain. No headaches, no stomach aches, no wrists, or neck aches. I am no stressed, practice meditation. Sometimes the pain is in both feet, but Dr’s. think one foot is compensating and it is getting tendonitis, though that should not be with all the shots and pills I have been recieving. the pain should get less with time, not increase!
