Does anyone know about Morton's neuroma?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

I have been off work for 2 months with this and have an appointment at the hospital in two weeks. My question is if I go back to work now might it get worse? The pain is less now but I don't want to make it bad again. I work in a home for the elderly. It means I'm on my feet all the time. I don't trust my doctor too much as he gave me bad advice before. Not too many people have heard of this Morton, I know I hadn't.
Thank you for your advice

Should you walk on your foot if you have Morton's Neuroma / Metatarsalgia?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

About a week ago, I injured my foot when I was trying on a pair of my heels at my house, it happened suddenly and I immediately took off the shoe. After doing some online research, the Metatarsal injury is definitely Morton's Neuroma and possibly a stress fracture as well. My question is, I have been seeing a lot of people online recommending gel inserts etc...but I have not been able to walk on this foot except if I walk on my heel. So, my question is whether or not it's okay to walk on it awkwardly if it doesn't hurt the nerve too much? Or should I keep off it all together and use crutches? I have been limping and I look very funny walking around on my heel so I have been considering crutches. I want it to heal so that it doesn't become a chronic condition, so it confuses me that people are saying they walk on it a little or with special shoe inserts. I am wondering if anyone knows why this is or if mine is just more severe? Any insight would be much appreciated. If walking on it doesn't make it worse I would want to do that especially because of the type of work I do, it's just easier if I can walk around especially to talk to customers.

And for a little more background information on my injury, the nerve does hurt very badly and sting if I do touch the area or step down on the whole foot. It seems to be getting worse despite icing it and raising it and taking ibuprofen. I have been walking around on my heel and am not sure if that is exacerbating the problem...I also plan to see a doctor if it doesn't make any healing progress by next week- I just can't really afford the copay right now.
Hey Richard thanks for your time, I've tried the squeezing thing and I can locate it in between the 3rd and 4th toes and it's about 2 inches in length and feels weird and tingly, sharp when aggravated. I can also see that area is very swollen compared to my other foot. I think I will see a doctor sometime this week but I will definitely try the foam that is a great tip!

Horrible pain in my right foot… Mortons Neuroma???

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

A couple of years ago, I dropped an iron skillet on my right foot at a restaurant I worked at. I seriously dont remember if it landed on my toe or the top of my foot but it hurt like hell!

I dont know if it is why my foot is hurting the way it does now, but this has been going on for about 3 years. I have done research and found that it may be a Morton's Neuroma because it describes my symptoms down to a T. It is in between my 3rd and 4th toe on my right foot. Anytime I am on my feet for for than 30 minutes at a time or when I wear closed toed shoes (that aren't even tight) I get a sharp pain in my foot in between those 2 toes. The pain I can describe is comparable to having ice and fire touching it at the same time, its a burning numb pain. It got worse when I was waitressing and now I'm a hairdresser. I'm miserable when my foot starts hurting every single day or when I go for a walk or work out. Any clues on what this can be or anyone experience the same thing?
And YES I'm most definately going to see a doctor. = ( I just got married and I will be under my husbands health insurance in August!!!! = )

has anyone had a neuroma removed from their foot ?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I have had pain in the second and third toe when walking - had several shots to ease the pain from the foot doctor. Next step would be to remove the neroma (which is a tumor touching the nerve) HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROCEDURE DONE. I was told you have to go under anethesia and the foot healing is only 3 weeks - is that true since it is my driving foot >

Has anyone had cryosurgery done on their foot?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I need some answers from people who had this done for neuroma in the foot.

Did you have a good experience? Did you get any pain relief?

I had this done twice in one foot and I am still in pain. I think the pain of the surgery is worse than that of the neuroma. I need some advice on what to do now.

I did ask him and he wants to do it again.

Why do I have hearing loss in only my left ear?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Professionals only please. As far as I know I have not been exposed to blasts or excessive loud noise on that side. I have tinnitus. My hearing loss is severe in high frequencies (65 Db). I have some neural damage in that ear (25 Db in high freq.). My right ear is fine (20 Db). I am 40, male, and have developed hearing loss and tinnitus gradually. Loud noises bother me. I have trouble with conversations in noisy places. As a child I had measles which may be relevant in some types of hearing loss. After visiting a hearing test, I was directed to a specialist. After reading on the internet, I am for the first time taking my hearing loss seriously. In fact, I am worried. What is the most probable cause of my hearing loss? It's only in my left ear. What would still be common causes? Noise/environment? Otosclerosis? Acoustic neuroma? Are acoustic neuromas in fact extremely rare? I chose to deliberately wait until after Christmas. 6 more days... Is it still most likely noise?

How does a Morton’s Neuroma act?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

I need some SERIOUS ONLY answers, & preferably from a doctor. For about 2 years now I have had a terrible pain in the tops of my feet, and the trouble is that it differs from day to day. One day it is a tingling sensation, the next a burning, then there is nerve-twitching, and finally cramping to the point it will literally raise my leg off the bed at night. It also seems to go diagonally from the outside of my foot to the inside. When I go to a podiatrist to have my toenails cut (a former fungus makes them too thick to cut myself), I literally CRINGE and grab the arms of the chair when he cuts the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th nails. I have tried cortisone shots, but they last only 3 days maximum, if it works at all. He told me it could possibly be a Morton's Neuroma, and the picture I saw on the internet shows it going diagonally and between the 2nd and 4th toes.
I DO have degenerative arthritis in the soles of my feet, but the pain I have is only on the tops. If I go to an orthopedist, all they see is my weight. I am practically living on Excedrin for the pain (sometimes average 6 a day taken every 4-6 hours). I am to the point I want to amputate my feet. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!
I also forgot to mention that I am losing sleep over this pain. One podiatrist told me if it WAS Morton's Neuroma, he could do surgery from the top of my foot, and his partner insists it can't be done that way.
