I am having hammertoe surgery done on all 5 toes do I really need to have a blood thinner injection after?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I am having all 5 toes worked on and 2 bunions taken off my right foot. Why would I have to have a blood thinner injection one time a day for 30 days afterward? I've had surgery before and not had to do this. I know this is to prevent clotting. But I still don't understand. Is it because I am diabetic? Although several years ago I had surgery on my leg and never had to give myself any injections so why this time?

how much does hammertoe surgery hurt?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

i have a major phobia of being in pain and i'm terrified about having this surgery! the doctor said they'll cut a tendon on top of my foot and put pins in for a month to straighten it. i'm wondering how much the actual surgery hurts and when they take out the pins? and also is it worth it in the end?

Does having stitches removed from your foot hurt?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I had bunion surgery and a hammertoe fixed (born with 'em) 2 and a half weeks ago and am having the stitches removed on January 7th. I have a 3 inch incision under my big toe, and a 2 inch incision under the toe next to it. When my doctor tried to remove them and discovered that they were not ready to come out, it hurt, it felt like a burning pinch. Was that because it wasn't healed enough, or is that how it feels to have them come out?

By the way, I'm 14 and can't tolerate a lot of pain.

My toes are discolored after hammertoe surgery, any advise?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I had hammertoe surgery about a month ago, and I notice today that my toes(the surgery ones) are darker than the rest of them . Does anybody knows if that is only temporary or is it permanent? Also I read that they are stiff. my Dr said I will be able to bend them with time...but they feel stiff. I,m worried about the color of my toes,it is very unsightly, not very nice to look at. any Dr nurses or knowledgeable person help me? thank you very much

Is an Orthopedic surgeon better than a podiatrist at preforming foot surgery?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I'm getting ready to have surgery on my foot. The orthopedic surgeon said that my problem was from wearing too small of shoes. I went to the shoes store and had my feet fitted...guess what? I'm wearing the RIGHT size. So, went to a podiatrist and he said, no.. I have 3 hammertoes and abunion and a tailor's bunion. So, do you think that the podiatrist just wants to do surgery? Or that the orthopedic guy didn't know what he was talking about? Which is better at handling feet?

What is bunion surgery like?

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I have to have bunion surgery on both feet. Doc is also fixing some hammertoes. As far as I know, doc doesn't plan on putting any pins in.

I'd like to hear your experience - how bad is the pain afterwards? (on a scale of 1-10, being the worst) When were you finally able to get into a shoe? Drive? Do you recommend doing both feet at once or both at different times? Any other recommendations?
