Go to the doctor, you're right about lamisil pills, they'll kill you. Get an Rx cream, the name escapes me, but it worked for me when I had it last year. And it takes a long time (9 months to a year) for it do go away (depending how much the nail is covered). Don't use crappy over-the-counter stuff, it does not work. And don't hide it under nail polish while you're treating it, unless you absolutely need to for a night, but make sure to take it off ASAP. My hubby took it (we have insurance) and it worked a little for maybe a year, but its back again. So, it might not work for you anyway. NO idea what will help.
