I would take him to the pediatrician but if you want to try something first, maybe try Listerine the original stuff. I hear it works

OK, believe it or not, you CAN treat it without longterm oral medications that reak havoc on your liver. My mother read this in a self help book and passed it onto me. IT DOES WORK! Vicks Vapo Rub! The old school kind not the new cream. Get the salve in the jar container and apply copius amounts to the affected nail twice daily. It take a couple of weeks, but it does work! Good Luck!

You would not get a fungus from an injury and injury such as a smashing blow would cause the nail to fall off or split in half and then fall off.

If it is thick, raised and yellow this is a fungus and does need to be treated with meds. You can try topical tea tree oil or OTC Lotrimin AF but with someone this young I really recommend having an MD look at it and deciding the best course of treatment.

If not properly treated this fungus can be dangerous and can spread.

This type of fungus is often picked up on public shower floors or from wearing damp socks and shoes. Barefoot is the way to go unless in public places.

First off, as a mom, I'd highly, highly suggest you take him to see his doc.

That said, original Listerine is effective on nail fungus and should be safe for him. Soak a cotton pad and use medical tape to keep it on the toe for at least 10-15 minutes. Do this several times a day.
