Should I feel pain after removal of ingrown nail?

I had an ingrown toenail removed at the emergency room tonight, and the doctor chemically burned the root of the nail so it won’t grow back. Now that I’ve been back home for a few hours, my toe hurts like hell. Is this pain common, rare but nothing to worry about, or cause for concern?

Oh God yes, that’s gonna hurt. Lots of sensitive nerve endings there. Soak it like 10 minutes, dry it, then leave it alone and go to bed, elevating it. It could even throb with your blood pressure. Take Advil or Ibuprofen if necessary, you should have been given Tylenol 3 with codeine.
