Question about toenail removal?

Someone stepped on my toe really hard about a year ago, and since then, the nail has died and started to fall off. I went to the doctor yesterday and she said that I might have to get it removed. I’m going to a podiatrist later today. Is toenail removal painful? And will I not be able to exercise? Because I’m really active and I can’t sit out. Any info would be great.

my sister had a similar experience but it didn’t take a year the whole toe nail wasn’t removed they just cut out all the part that was in her skin and what not it grew back fine but no shoes or socks for about a month and a half was the rule not sure how bad it hurt but it was better to fix it and get done with it instead of dealing with the original pain and disfigurement
