So I had an ingrown toenail on my big toe and I cut out the shard on my own. After words I went to my doctor because it was infected and he put me on antibiotics and told me to soak it in warm water mixed with Epsom salt. After about a week it seems to be healing up but in the surrounding area where I cut the shard out it is still very tender and painful to the touch. Is this just due to the general infection or is something else going on that needs a return trip to the doctor?
It might be still tender from what you did but it puss comes out then you should go see your dr or go see a Podiatrist, its a Dr that specializes in that kinda of stuff. Just keep cleaning it and make sure you wear open toe shoes so air can get thru your nail so it can heal faster.
the whole nail might be trying to come off. If you buy some tea tree oil drops for the water it is used a lot on stuff like this for feet problems it should help.
First of all I am sure the doctor already gave you the lecture of digging out an ingrown toenail on your own so I won’t harp on that however; make sure to take all the atibiotics as prescribed and if the toe is still painful, red, swollen or presenting with puss you need to make the return trip to the doctor as the infection may not be gone.
