Treatment for pain on side of foot?

I have no idea how or why, but the outside of my left foot started hurting a few days ago. When I move it, it feels like there is fluid moving there (or it could just be a tendon or something stretching/ripping?). When I walk flat-footed, it is almost unbearable to walk. However, when I walk on my toes, the pain disappears. My foot looks exactly the same as before (no swelling), so it can’t be a broken bone. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

my guess is you have peroneal tendonitis or a tear or posterior tibial tendonitis, depending on location of pain. to rule out tear you may want to get an appt with a poditarist. for some information on the tendonitis there is a great website, myfootshop.com, that offers informative articles, a discussion forum with a doc and products to help you treat at home. use the source for a direct link to the site and articles, i think you will find it helpful. i work in a podiatry office and we find it extremely helpful for the do it yourselfer. good luck!
