I have severe neuropathy due to chemotherapy in my feet. My Dr gave me some meds however they made me sick.
My mother is a diabetic and told me to go by diabetic socks. Which has really helped.
However I have the pins and needles still. When I run I feel like my feet are flip flops and the bottoms are going to fall off. I still continue to run because I have a three year old daughter and I love playing with her whether it puts me in pain or not !!!!
has anyone had this similiar problem ( not asking cancer but neuropathy ) and found a better way to deal with it ???
thanks heather
Drugs are a good solution for some. Did your doctor try you on gabapentin/neurontin? If so, did you start on a small dose and ramp it up over a few weeks? Have you tried Lyrica?
B vitamin supplements help some nerves. Fish oil is a good anti inflammatory and can sometimes help.
There are several medications out there for neuopathy. Ask your Dr. I have Neuropathy from Diabetes ..sometimes the pins & needles drive me nuts. You can also try extra Strength Tylenol in the mean time. Some pain meds will offer a temporarily relief…
Many diabetics have neuropathy. It's a real pain in the butt. It's damaged nerve endings and can't be reversed. When my feet are hot and tingling at night (enough that I know I won't be able to go to sleep), I put on a pair of socks, and put a light towel over a large ice bag. (gallon sized zip lock bag) Then I put my feet on it for about 30 minutes or so. It's not cold, but more cool, and it helps my feet "cool down" enough that I can sleep. Not much you can do, don't try to run with flip flops on, it can be dangerous!!LOL. Medications I have taken did not really help and had nasty side effects,Lyrica made me like a zombie, and one of the other bad side effects of it are weight gain. Maybe others here have better suggestions.
neuropathy due to chemotherapy drugs is irreversible, it is a side effect of the drugs you were given during your chemo treatments. I would ask your doctor to see if neurontin would even work for you. Hope this helps
i see a few people have mentioned trying neurontin. i am taking neurontin for general pain in my legs. it is not caused by neuropathy. The neurontin works well for me at night because the pain is so bad, and it helps me sleep. for me neurontin makes me drowsy throughout the day, but that may not happen to you. check with your doctor.
