She needs to take Tylenol, try to ice her foot and keep it elevated, don't let her walk around unless she has to go to the bathroom, just be a helping hand, but other than that she should be staying off of her foot.

Danielle is absolutely right. The only thing I might add is that her doctor may prescribe her some stronger pain medication for a few days. After that, the pain should be much easier to manage with tylenol and/or advil.

Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate

rice. A common known treatment in sports pain therapy

its pretty simple.
Dont walk unless absolutely necessary, and until your doctor says its perfectly fine
Ice it as soon as possible, and as much as possible
Compression is done with the cast
Elevate it so that it doesnt swell

"Elevating an injury reduces swelling. It's most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of the heart. For example, if you injure an ankle, try lying on your bed with your foot propped on one or two pillows."

also some hot lovin couldnt hurt

Pain is often caused by the muscles being tight. First though she should be taking extra vitamin C; the body uses it to mend tissue.

For the pain try massaging the leg above the foot. Feel for knots or tight muscles. Using some pressure, rub along the muscle.

Relaxing also helps so she should drink a tea for relaxing, like chamomile. So can deep breathing into the bottom of the tummy.
