I am a runner with constant lower right back pain when pressure is applied to right foot. What’s going on?

I have a constant pain for the last few days when pressure is applied to my foot. I got into my 4th mile Fri and had to stop due to the pain. I have since been using the elliptical which seems not to bother me! I am 26 yrs old and feel as if i’m to young to have back pains lol. It even pains when walking! Any advice or similiar pains from anyone else?

Check your feet alignment, seems one foot is causing the problem, so you need to see a Podiatrist, get your feet checked and perhaps special insoles. Good Luck

yeah, so probably your quad is so tight that it is pulling on your butt muscles, which pulls you back; this has happened to me; you need to see a massage therapist to get it worked out

    Hi ginaisperfect,

From your pelvis to the ground is like a foundation to a house. Every joint and muscle affects all the others function.

If your back is not functioning correctly, your foot placement can be wrong when you run, which then overloads your back.

Add in all the muscle imbalances and it is very easy to get back pain from your foot.

You need to address the whole chain of things otherwise, if you just place an orthotic in your shoe, further imbalances can occur over time.

There are a few things you can do your self to help. Stretches and strengthening techniques you can use at home, Acupressure points to ease the pain , and a many toher things to correct the problem.

As always if pain persists, seek help. Never let things become chronic, so try things your self first as it sounds like a moderate or minor issue. But if no chnage with the techniques below then seek help.

See the link below for some free help, or even email me if you wish.

    All the best
    Dr Graeme Teague
