I can’t help you with the cost question but I do offer the following. I’m a Pedorthist not a Podiatrist. I deal with a lot of people that have feet problems like bunions. Some come to me post op and they are still having significant problems. In fact I would say it is something like 2 of every 10 (20%) either continue to experience some problems and in some case worse problems. In a lot of cases they are not told what caused the bunion so they go back to doing the same thing (which is wearing the wrong shoes) and they end up having problems again years later. I usually tell people who are thinking about surgery to try all options before going under. Once the cut is made there is not going back. One thing you can try is going to a shoe that is made for people with bunions. P.W. Minor has a shoe with a stretch top that when worn takes pressure off of the bunion. For many people this is the solution and they never have the surgery. In some cases you may need the shoe and an arch support but I always start with the shoe first. If you decide to go with surgery make sure you do your homework. Some doctors are better than others. If you are interested in learning more about bunions and the P.W shoe go to http://www.360footcare.com
good luck
