My mom has been diagnosed with both of the above and given many medications. I believe at various times she is on Lyrica and Valium. Her pain is getting worse. Now she is starting to fall and talk out of her head and go back in time. Dad says she's been looking for me and my brother so we can get ready for school. We're both in our 40's! She has been in and out of the hospital. Deep down, I believe she has some type of muscular disease or nerve disease and they just haven't found it. She cries for hours in pain (her legs) everynight and it takes Dad a long time to get her on her feet in the morning. She is just in her 60's and use to be the most active person you have every met, just a few year ago. What do you think it could be?
Regardless of the diagnosis, it sounds like she is reacting poorly to her pain meds. She's mentally altered, and still experiencing pain despite taking the meds she's been prescribed. That is reason enough to seek other opinions.
Has your mother seen a rheumatologist or a pain management specialist? They have knowledge of many types of medications which are effective treating pains of many origins. They have experience diagnosing conditions which cause pain. If not, I highly recommend it.
The pain is most likely damaged nerves, ie. neuropathy However, I’ve see people on Lyrica and Valium having the above side effects. These drugs do unbalance the hormone system, thus the many side effects you can find by looking at either drugs.com or rxlists.com
