It helps with the inflammation because there is some kind of fluid that builds up in the heal that is causing you pain. This will take care of it in a matter of a few days. You can only do one heal at a time so if its both heals you'll have to get 2 different appointments set up...you stay off your foot for the first day and thats it.. its doesnt hurt anymore.. yes.. you can go to the doctor and they can inject some type of steriod into your heal. Found out that a lot of people put it off till it intergrows into the joint (where they can't get at it) and causes permenant damage. Sorry, surgury is the only solution.
