I"m sure people are better off afterwards but PROVIDING you get
an honest surgeon and you find out first what is the procedure,
and get second and third opinion.
I met a woman that her Armenian podiatrist ruined her feets when he operates her bunions.

i've heard that in extreme cases, a toe is amputated. that allows for the others to correct. don't know if that is fact.

I haven't, but one of my good friends has. She had an extreme case of hammer toes and had surgery on both feet. She got to the point to where she could hardly wear shoes anymore. After the surgery, she had to stay off of her feet for the first week, then had podiatry boots for the next 5 weeks or so, then had to wear either open back sneakers or open toed flat sandals for the next month or so. She took pain medication for probably 4-5 days, but she said it really wasn't too bad. Her toes are great now, they look almost normal and don't hurt her anymore. Her shoe size did go up, from a 9 to a 10, so you may need to go shoe shopping afterwards, but heck, have fun with that! Take care, be well and make sure you know your surgeon's track record.
