I had hammertoe surgery about a month ago, and I notice today that my toes(the surgery ones) are darker than the rest of them . Does anybody knows if that is only temporary or is it permanent? Also I read that they are stiff. my Dr said I will be able to bend them with time…but they feel stiff. I,m worried about the color of my toes,it is very unsightly, not very nice to look at. any Dr nurses or knowledgeable person help me? thank you very much
The discoloration could still be bruising as a result of the healing from the surgery. One thing that you could try to help with some of that is try arnica (an herb that is designed to help with bruising) to see if that helps some of the bruising.
As for the stiffness that is common after some types of surgery to the foot and toes. I had surgery on my right ankle and right great toe last summer and I still have some stiffness but it’s better than it used to be because of the time that I spent going to physical therapy.
However, I would recommend checking with your surgeon to let them know of your concerns so that they can evaluate the situation further.
