I had bunion surgery and a hammertoe fixed (born with ‘em) 2 and a half weeks ago and am having the stitches removed on January 7th. I have a 3 inch incision under my big toe, and a 2 inch incision under the toe next to it. When my doctor tried to remove them and discovered that they were not ready to come out, it hurt, it felt like a burning pinch. Was that because it wasn’t healed enough, or is that how it feels to have them come out?
By the way, I’m 14 and can’t tolerate a lot of pain.
No worries! You have a smart doctor. When an incision is healed and ready for stitches to be removed it doesn’t hurt. I’m guessing the skin was being pulled with the suture material and thus burning and pinching. When healed the sutures should be loose enough to slide when you pull softly on the little bit of material poking up. It shouldn’t hurt at all. Because your doc had you come back and didn’t just take them out anyway I would trust him!
