After surgery on 10 hammertoes, 2 of them are swollen and feel sprained (10 weeks later).Dr. says it’s not

permanent, but he did it so I'm not sure on how objective he's being. I'm sooo scared! I'll die if I can't wear real shoes or walk normally again. What's your guess? Does the swelling usually go down? What percentage of the time does it stay and is it surgically correctable if not?I'll go 4 a 2nd opinion, but I can't wait til then to stop worrying!

    relax,
it is not uncommon to have post operative swelling from toe surgeries up to 6 months – year after surgery. I would have recommended having 1 foot done at a time, sounds like you did both. How are you going to stay off your feet so you can heal and keep the swelling down? unless, you have a personal servant that can bring you your meals and things, I would only have 1 foot surgery at a time, never both. The faster you can get into a tennis shoe, the sooner you can get the swelling out of your toes and feet. it will hurt at times, also I'm sure you are already icing and elevating the feet; if your incisions are healed 100%, then cold water foot baths can also help with swelling but remember not to leave your feet in the baths for no more than 10 minutes at a time, 5 minutes if you are using some ice. the biggest thing is patience; you will wear your shoes again.

ouch are they on the same foot or one on each. Did you soak them in any medical bath to help relieve the swelling?
