Last year I tore my Achilles tendon on my left foot but not completely. The pain started when I was breaking in my new hiking boots. This year I bought some new boots which I need to break in by next month (I fight forest fires so hiking is necessary.) I just can’t hike with a messed up Achilles. How can I break in my new boots without hurting my Achilles tendon?

I have a friend who hates going to the doctor but had this bad ingrown toenail. He decided to fix it himself. He told me he somehow got into his toe and pulled out a long thin piece of toenail that had grown into his skin. The only thing he had at home to clean it was soap and water. Now he has this… under a half inch wide fleshy bump alongside his toenail that is probably bothering him more than what the ingrown toenail did and expels pus. I’ve been taking care of it for him because he is tall and fat and cannot reach his feet very well. Feet don’t really bother me so I don’t have a problem with cleaning it but he can’t stop by everyday. He has a job where he needs to wear shoes but he tries not to wear them as much as possible. Every time he is here, I have him soak it in hot, soapy water then clean it with peroxide and dab some anti-infection stuff on it. He would soak it at home, but he doesn’t have anything big enough to put his size 15 foot in. He says it hurts less after he soaks it and I clean it all up. I keep telling him he needs to go to the doctor to get it fixed but he won’t listen to me. Is there anything else I could do to help him, like some other ointment I could put on it that would help better? Or does he just need to get his butt to the doctor?

I have flat feet and short Achilles Tendons. I always see adds for orthopedic socks, so I was wondering if they have them for flat feet and short Achilles tendons. I would also like to know if they are tube socks or ankle high because I have to wear duty boots and regular shoes on my off time. Also I am not looking for prescription socks, just ones I can buy at a store or online.
