What exercises can I do after having bunion surgery?

Yesterday I went clothes shopping and ended up very depressed. I need to amp up my exercising and switch from diet pop to water. Hopefully that will help.

My big problem is I am having bunion surgery in a few weeks. I have an ellipitcal and love it but after having bunion surgery I will be unable to use it. What other things can I do during recovery for exercise? After my right foot is healed I will be having my left foot done.

    Do situps.

  2. In my practice exercise after bunion surgery is often a frustrating issue. Because the bone is surgically broken and repaired, it’s difficult to allow weight bearing exercise, such as treadmill, elliptical, or even stationary bike, for at least 8 weeks after surgery. After the incision is healed, and with your surgeon’s approval, swimming should be okay. In terms of strength training, upper body work is good as long as you’re seated for it. in the end, it will be worthwhile, since you’ll be wearing shoes much more comfortably. Be sure, however, that your podiatrist makes you some custom orthotics after the surgery to prevent the bunions from coming back!
    Good luck.
