Is it okay to use painkillers after the pain you got them for is gone?

I was prescribed painkillers (Lorcet) for my mouth surgery I had today. They make me totally relaxed and very drowsy so I was wondering if, after my pain from my mouth surgery goes away if it would be okay to use the painkillers every now and then when I’m having bad achilles pain or when I need to sleep? I would never abuse them, I know my limit. And I would obviously discard them at the expiration date.

I was told to only take pain meds when in pain. If someone takes pain meds just to feel "good", or "high", the chances of becoming addicted are a lot higher. If you are taking it when you are in pain the chances are not as high. Taking it to sleep is not a good idea as it can lead to addiction which shouldn’t be confused with dependence. Addiction is when someone feels they need the drug to help them out to get some sort of feeling from the drug not relieve pain. Obviously if you’re thinking of taking it to make you sleepy it will be for the wrong reason. Don’t use Tramodol unless you want to be sick. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory that should be used while food is on your stomach. I would ask your dr. about pain relief from your achilles tenden. If you want to get relaxed and sleepy for bedtime you may want to try some Melatonin as it does the same thing and there is no risk of dependency or addiction with it. I have been taking it for several months and it works great. There’s also something else that may help you that finally helped me with inflammation after I got my spinal cord stimulators put in for my pain. I started taking something called Fusions Red that can only be purchased through a company I’ve ordered from and work with. It also has a very high amount of Melatonin in it so it’s also great for sleep as well as pain. I’ve taken Celebrex but because it makes my stomach upset and can increase problems with stomach acicidity I try to avoid it and use the Fusions Red instead. You can contact me if you have any questions or want more info about Fusions. A lot of people I know have had a lot of relieve from pain due to arthritis, muscle aches, and other ailments. I would also be careful about taking any pain killers when you don’t need them for pain as they can cause constipation. This was one reason my dr. told me to not take them unless if I absolutely needed them after the birth of my kids. Good luck and feel better.

Who are you trying to convince? Us or yourself? You seem smart enough to answer this question on your own.

Yes, you can use them. They are for pain tho, not for sleep! Also, if you take them often, the side effects may change. At first they may make you sleep but after a while of taking them and your body gets use to them, they probably won’t make you sleep. I would just take them on occasion when I had pain that a tylenol or ibuprofen won’t help. Yes, please be careful, they are very very addictive. It is very very hard to stop once your addicted. You just thought you had pain, once addicted and you don’t have any more, it can really make you have pain and get very sick. Be careful.

Ive been on pain meds for years dude… the last thing you should do is use them for means other than intended for… if you have pain or sleep problems, trust me, address them through a doctor and try too do so without narcotics… im keepin it real here, lots of people use pain meds that they have left over for headaches, or whatever… but when you flirt with them for other reasons? this is exactly how addiction starts.. you dont want too slip into that mode.. trust me… i wish i would never have touched a pain pill for pain.. in fact i started on a prescription for loratab 10mgs.. and they worked for pain, but then they stopped doing the trick…. here i sit 4yrs later on 10 of the 15mg percocet tabs daily for pain as the pill i used too take i built a tolerance too etc…my point is, you just dont want too get started on these for non essential reasons….. one day you will really need pain meds, we all will, and then you wont have too ask if its okay too take them…. you really need em….. you can take them for you heel pain etc.. but i just wouldnt get used too them… please dont! dependence on opiates is no joke. luckily i see a doctor for pain… but ive seen many people that are paying 60 buks a pill 2x a day just too avoid narcotic withdrawal… now thats the insanity of addiciton…

if you go too a doc for your heel, you could ask for tramadol… its non narcotic and works good for pain… it gets u a bit high… but youll handle it.. good luck

No! If you don’t have pain then you don’t need pain killers! They are not to be used for sleeping either!
