I may have torn my achilles tendon. Does anyone have opinions on immobilizagion vs. surgery?

I hyper extended my foot and the doc thinks I tore my achilles tendon although the xrays aren't in. I see an orthopedist tomorrow. the doc offered two possible options if I did indeed tare my achilles tendon: casting vs surgery. what do you think?

Depends on the extent of the injury. Partial ruptures may be treated without surgery but complete ones definitely need surgery. Since the TA is a soft tissue, an MRI will be needed to fully assess the damage, not just ordinary Xrays. The orthopedist should know what to do.

Well the surgeon will tell you what you will be doing, you wont choose. Take his/her advice since each tear provides different challenges but either way you will be immobilized for awhile with your toe pointing down if surgical intervention is needed you'll find out.

If it is torn, it needs to be repaired as soon as possible. It depends on how soon you want to be back on your feet.
